The Slovenian government could declare China's Huawei a high-risk vendor in the coming weeks, Slovenian media outlets said on Thursday, based on a draft conclusion the government has not yet decided on.
The Slovenian STA news agency was given access to the unofficial document, which evaluates Huawei as a high-risk supplier of technology for 5G networks based on European security criteria.
As carried by Slovenian media, Huawei said that they were unpleasantly surprised and worried.
We are unpleasantly surprised by the government’s proposal to evaluate Huawei as a high-risk supplier. We will study it when it is officially available and then decide on further legal steps to protect our company and our business interests, director of the Huawei Technologies Slovenia company, Histro Zhangqin, said.
On August 13, during a visit of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Slovenia and his meeting with Prime Minister Janez Jansa, Slovenia and the USA signed a joint declaration on 5G security.
Today, the US State Secretary requested in Dubrovnik that Croatia should not hand over strategic projects to the Chinese because national security must be a priority.
