After Milenko Basic and Dragan Stipic on Monday denied any unlawfulness in the wind park scandal to USKOK anti-corruption investigators, their attorneys pleaded for the two to be released on bail and Zagreb County Court is expected to make a decision on that on Wednesday.

”Basic presented an extensive defence and handed over documents which he considers are proof that he did nothing unlawful. We asked for release from detention and offered a hefty bail,” Basic’s defence attorney Jadranka Slokovic said, without specifying the amount offered for bail.

Slokovic added that she does not know how Basic and Stipic entered Croatia from Bosnia and Herzegovina where they had been until last Wednesday, when they surrendered themselves to the Remetinac detention centre in Zagreb. “It is not excluded that the two of them had been in Croatia for some time already,” she added.

Stipic’s attorney Laura Valkovic confirmed that her client had presented documents that deny the crime he has been charged with.

Basic and Stipic are currently the only suspects in custody in the wind park scandal. Former state-secretary Josipa Rimac, Gracac Mayor Natasa Turbic (HDZ), former secretary in the Agriculture Minister’s cabinet Ruzica Njavro, Sibenik businessman Ante Sladic and Knin city councillor Marinko Tokmacija, who are all suspects in this case, were released from the Remetinac detention centre last year.
