In the last 24 hours, Slovenia has registered 23,433 new cases of the infection with coronavirus, or double from the day before, the country's health authorities reported on Wednesday.
However, the surge is due to the new method of counting cases, which now includes any positive results registered via rapid antigen testing. Until recently, only results confirmed by PCR testing – which is considered more reliable than antigen tests – were reported by health officials.
In Slovenia, there are currently 186,537 active cases of Covid-19, and the country’s 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants is 8,851, whereas the seven-day incidence stands at 14,737. More than 900 Covid patients are receiving hospital treatment.
Over the last 24 hours, the coronavirus-related death toll has increased by 14 to 5,880.
