"Even though the Covid epidemic has been mildly waning in Slovenia, the government is preparing new restrictions for the Christmas and New Year holidays, concerned with the possibility of a new wave caused by the Omicron variant of the virus," Croatia's state agency Hina said on Tuesday.

The number of hospitalized patients in the country is still high, albeit it is falling and on Tuesday there were 665 hospitalized Covid patients in the country, 206 of whom are in intensive care.

There have been 1,555 new cases of the virus confirmed in the past 24 hours, with every third test proving positive, and six Covid patients have died, the government reported.

"Unofficial sources have said that the government intends to ramp up restrictions over the coming holidays and that a final decision will be announced at a regular cabinet meeting on Thursday," Hina said, without clarifying.
