The Serbian government decided on Tuesday to freeze the prices of several basic foodstuffs at the level they were at on November 15.
A press release said that the decision was for the prices of some types of sugar, flour, sunflower oil, pork and milk. “The limitation of prices has been introduced in order to remove negative consequences and prevent market disturbances and will not apply to reduced prices (sales, seasonal discounts or promotional sales) if they were in force on 15 November 2021, but to the regular prices before discounts,” it said.
The price freeze will remain in effect for 60 days. The government also ordered producers and suppliers to keep their deliveries at the same level as in the past year. The press release said that any violation of the decree draws fines of 100,000 to 2 million Dinars (1 Euro – 118 Dinars) and a ban on business operations for 6 months to a year.
