Slovenia recorded 11,668 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, which is over 5,000 fewer than a week ago, the country's government said on Friday.
Despite the still large number of new infections, epidemiologists estimate that the fifth wave of the Covid-19 epidemic is subsiding and might start moving downward next week.
Matjaz Leskovar of the Jozef Stefan Research Institute told local media that the last projection shows that Slovenia has reached the peak of the epidemic wave and that the curve will start to fall in the coming days.
According to the National Public Health Institute, the number of active cases in Slovenia currently stands at 194,969.
