Mate Simundic of the right-wing DP party was appointed president of the Split-Dalmatia County Assembly on Monday, so the county assembly was constituted on the third attempt and new elections were avoided.
Simundic’s appointment was supported by 24 county councillors, including those of the ruling centre-right Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), while 10 councillors voted against it and another 10 abstained.
In the previous two attempts to constitute the Split-Dalmatia County Assembly, in June and in July, none of the candidates received the required majority of votes.
In his address, Simundic said the most important thing was that new elections for the Split-Dalmatia County Assembly had been avoided.
The Split-Dalmatia County Assembly has 47 seats, and the HDZ has the largest number of seats, 18, while the DP party has three seats.
