Increasingly, Croatians from the south of the country shop for food and essentials in the neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the Bosnian town of Prisika, only kilometres from the border, food is more affordable for Croatian weekend shoppers.

Instructions on tax returns and accepted currencies are prominently displayed all over town, Slobodna Dalmacija reported. A case of beer, for example, can be had for 30 kuna (€4) less.

”It’s not only about price, but also quality,” one of the shoppers said, adding that the quality of meat incomparable to that bought in Croatian shopping centres and butcher’s shops.

Still, the most valued thing to buy across the border are medicines. Although pharmacists are not keen to admit it, it is widely known that many prescription drugs can be bought in Bosnia over the counter, Slobodna Dalmacija reported.
