By observing this day on May 1, we join everyone who promotes the value of work and work ethic in the Croatian society, the President, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, said in a message issued on Monday.
“The celebration of May 1, the International Workers’ Day, has a long tradition in Croatia. We remember with pride all those who achieved a more just treatment of workers, and we thank those who today, too, advocate for their rights, who fight for the best possible standards for them,” the president said.
She added a more positive social climate should be promoted, where honest work would be valued with dignity, and the rights of the “industrious, professional, honest and creative Croatian workers, highly regarded around the world” would be protected.
“The foundation of Croatia’s development and progress, as well as a prerequisite for young people staying in our country, are equal work conditions and contemporary standards for all workers,” the President said.
