EC for N1: Bosnia will receive some 500 follow-up questions

Bosnia will receive another set of 500 questions from Brussels soon, to clarify the ambiguities in the answers to the European Commission’s (EC) Questionnaire the country submitted in February this year, the Commission has confirmed for N1.

“The Commission is currently assessing the answers received and by the summer break we intend indeed to follow up with some questions and other inquiries. This has happened for all countries at that stage in the process,” said the Commission.

Bosnia received the Questionnaire in December 2016 as a part of the regular accession procedure. Due to complex constitutional order and political disputes, it took the country more than a year to finalize the answers and submit them in February 2018.

“Regarding the content, the idea is to ask clarifications of certain answers provided, flag and request missing elements, or ask specific questions stemming from the assessment of the answers provided,” the Commission said.

Only after the Commission provides its opinion on the answers, the country will know if and when it will obtain the candidate status for EU membership.
