The 45-million kuna (€6.1 million) Orlec Trinket solar power station project that will secure additional electricity supply during the summer months on the Adriatic island of Cres was presented on Wednesday.
An agreement will be signed in Zagreb on Thursday by the national electricity provider HEP, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and the local Franciscan monastery on the island as stakeholders in the project, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Prefect Zlatko Komadina said today.
This will be the largest solar powered power station in Croatia.
The facility will have a capacity of generating 6.5 megawatts of electricity and will provide power for 2,000 households. The most important benefit of the power plant will be that it will prevent blackouts due to extreme consumption during the summer months.
The county will provide a building site permit and the necessary documentation, the Franciscan monastery will provide the land and HEP will secure the funds to build and launch the power plant’s operations.
This project, launched in 2014, is part of the county’s efforts to develop the use of renewable energy sources, said Komadina.
