Over a million passengers passed through Croatian airports in May, an increase of 16.3 percent compared to May 2017, while the number of passengers in the first five months of this year was 2.47 million, up 14.5 percent compared to the same period last year, the state statistics bureau reported on Monday.

The largest number of passengers, 301,377, was recorded at the Adriatic city of Split Airport, an 18.5 percent increase compared to May last year, while Zagreb Airport was second, with a slightly lower figure of 299,771 passengers, or up 12.3 percent year-on-year, and followed by Dubrovnik Airport, with 289,564 passengers, an increase of 14.8 percent.

Over a tonne of cargo was transported via airports in the country, an increase of some 47 percent from May 2017.

A total of 12,725 flights were recorded by the country’s nine airports, an increase of 10.9 percent from May 2017.

In the first five months of this year, a total of 34,567 flights were recorded, an increase of 8.6 percent.
