Swiss tech start-up Centrabit, led by Swedish investor Carl Lundstrom, best known as co-founder of the file-sharing website Pirate Bay, announced plans to open an office in Zagreb, the company said on Tuesday.

“We have chosen Croatia because of the reputation that Zagreb has as a location with good software developers, and moderate cost of labour,” Lundstrom said.

Lundstrom, who currently lives in Switzerland, was previously involved with several other tech projects, including Rix Telecom, a Swedish web hosting and telecom company which he later sold, the Hina agency reported.

Apart from Lundstrom, Ukrainian Ighor July, technical director and an experienced software developer, also has an important role in Centrabit, the company said, adding that Lundstrom and July began cooperating four years ago, after Lundstrom had recognised the value of July’s blockchain project and went on to establish the company with him.

Centrabit’s main product is Qt Bitcoin Trader – a desktop open-source application for crypto-currency trading exchange, which the company bills as superior to web-based interfaces in terms of security and speed of transactions.

Four years after founding their company in Switzerland, the start-up is now expanding by opening an office in Zagreb, which is looking to hire several C++ programmers, who will be able to choose later on whether they want to be based in Zagreb or move to Centrabit’s headquarters near Zurich in Switzerland.
