The government on Thursday forwarded a bill to parliament, aimed at rationalising and optimising the work of public administration bodies and re-establishing the State Inspectorate.

Public Administration Minister Lovro Kuscevic said that the bill, to be discussed by the parliament under fast-track procedure, confirms “the government’s orientation to reforms” because it creates conditions to optimise and rationalise state agencies.

“We are aware that Croatia has a large number of legal entities in the form of agencies whose activities can be conducted by the central state administration at a far lower cost, with much better results,” Kuscevic said, saying the bill will help implement the government’s August decision to reduce the number of agencies, institutes, foundations, companies, and other legal entities with public authority.

The bill foresees changing the scope of work of public administration bodies so that they could take on the work of agencies, which will be abolished, as well as re-establishing the State Inspectorate which will combine several inspection services. That will significantly contribute to the inspectorate’s quality of work and communication with legal and physical entities, said Kuscevic.
