World-renowned filmmakers Pawel Pawlikowski and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu were rewarded on Friday with the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo, as a special recognition to their work and contribution to the film industry.
Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) rewarded the two artists during the opening ceremony of its jubilee 25th edition, held at the Sarajevo National Theatre.
Polish filmmaker said he was visiting the Bosnian capital in the years before and after the war and that this is the city with a strong heart.
“That heart is strong indeed, stronger than ideology, than nationalism or various things from history. This festival is something that portrays it,” said Pawlikowski.
Oscar-winning filmmaker Inarritu stressed that this was an exceptional recognition for his work.
“I was invited several times but for professional and personal reasons I couldn’t come. I always dreamt of coming to Sarajevo and I’m living that dream now. I am here with my wife, daughter and friends. I share this honour with my dear friends Pawlikowski and Danis Tanovic,” said Mexican artist.
