Israeli Ambassador to Croatia Ilan Mor said on Thursday, on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the breakout of inmates of the WWII Jasenovac concentration camp, that one must remember the past and fight against antisemitism, racism and intolerance.
Every time I visit Jasenovac, Auschwitz or some other such place in Europe, I think of lessons that we should learn. We must remember those events but we must also remember that the Holocaust and systematic annihilation of Jews did not start in Auschwitz, antisemitism dates back to the time of the Crusaders, the ambassador said after paying tribute to the Jasenovac victims.
It is imperative that we all fight against antisemitism, racism and intolerance, the diplomat added.
We must never just stand by and look the other way when something horrible happens. We must be active and fight for those who are discriminated against, who are different from us, so as to protect their rights, he said.
Ambassador Mor said that those messages should be passed onto young generations and that one should also fight against the continuous process of denial and downplaying of the Holocaust.
