A mine clearing project financed with 31.7 million kuna (€4.2 million) in grants from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development has been carried out in Pozega-Slavonia County, which cleared 3.7 square kilometers of farmland.
The project involved areas around the towns of Lipik and Pakrac.
“Civil Protection Directorate head Damir Trut on Tuesday presented the mine situation and mine clearance activities in the county, underscoring that mine clearance activities had become one of the government’s priority tasks, in which systematic investments had been made for nearly 25 years,” state agency Hina said.
The results of that, he said, have been deemed very successful by stakeholders in the mine removal community and local communities, who are getting back mine-cleared areas.
Trut thanked representatives of Pozega-Slavonia County for many years of successful cooperation and expressed confidence that through joint work they would reach their goal to have no mines in Pozega-Slavonia County and then no mines in Croatia.
