In a press release, Barac admitted that he had reacted in an extremely inappropriate way in the conflict on Saturday which was a result of "long-standing family disagreements, full of harassment, insults and even threats from close people".

"I turned myself in to the police and confessed to what I was accused of. Taking into account the seriousness of the situation and me being a public figure, and I believe that public figures should be an example to everyone else in the society, I hereby announce my withdrawal from the race for Dubrovnik mayor and irrevocably resign as president of SDP Dubrovnik. I am sorry about what happened. My family comes first, so I wouldn't like to talk about this subject any further, which is why I ask you for understanding," Barac said.

Barac was charged with making threats, which is punishable with up to three years in prison.
