The Serbian women’s national basketball team won gold at the European Championships, beating France 63-54 in the finals in Valencia on Sunday.
Serbia’s forward Sonja Vasic was also named Most Valuable Player in the championship and was selected to the tournament All-Star team.
National team coach Maja Maljkovic said that “the girls now see that they can do everything”. “It’s unreal what this generation has done for Serbian basketball and Serbian sports in general. We will be talking about this for a long time,” she said. Maljkovic won two gold and one bronze medal as national team coach at European championships to date as well as a bronze at the Olympic Games in Brazil in 2016.
The Serbian women’s national basketball team has qualified for the Olympic Games in Japan. The team will have a traditional appearance on the balcony of Belgrade’s city hall on Monday evening.
