Bosnia’s Transport and Communications Minister Ismir Jusko said that the European Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc’s visit to Bosnia in the middle of her busy schedule is a reward for Bosnia. He also said that talks about the construction of the Peljesac Bridge in Croatia are still an option for the resolution of this issue.

“Its a big thing for Bosnia that Commissioner Bulc is coming to Bosnia, considering her tight schedule and countless obligations. This visit is no coincidence, but a reward for Bosnia. Our various successful activities have led to Commissioner’s arrival in order to show us her support,” Jusko said.

When it comes to announcements that the Peljesac Bridge construction could start by mid-July, Jusko told N1 he supposes the Council of Minister Chairman Denis Zvizdic will inform the Commissioner about this case.

“Several months ago, I answered several questions before the Bosnian MPs concerning the Bridge when they asked me about some letters sent by Bosnian authorities, to which I said that only direct meetings between the Bosnian delegation and their Croatian colleagues can achieve results,” Jusko stressed. “If we want to defend Bosnian interests than the legislative and the executive branch must work together to start the negotiations on this issue.”

When asked whether it is too late for any negotiation, he said it is never too late to talk about any open issue.

“Our neighbours are extremely important to us. The question of Bosnia’s borders at sea should be resolved as soon as possible. The moment somebody authorises me to do something about this issue I assure you we will organise a meeting with our Croatian counterparts in less than five days, to discuss this issue,” he pointed out.

Construction of the said bridge is problematic for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Some Bosnian officials say that it violates the country’s right to open seas. Bosnia demands that its border issues with Croatia be resolved before it gives its official consent for the construction of the Peljesac Bridge.

Speaking about the 16+1 Summit in Sofia, also known as the China and the Central and Eastern European countries Cooperation Summit, Jusko noted it is an ideal opportunity for Bosnia and Herzegovina to present its transport strategy and projects of the highest priorities for Bosnia. The Chinese investors told Jusko, during a working conference of the 16+1 that they are ready to construct all the sections of the 5C corridor. This corridor is part of the pan-European transport Corridor “5.”
