The European Union will increase its military resources for a possible intervention in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will help maintain the country's territorial integrity and stability, the Office of the High Representative (OHR) in Sarajevo said on Thursday.

High Representative Christian Schmidt explicitly welcomes the decision to strengthen the temporary reserve forces with the EUFOR Althea mission throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will considerably increase the EUFOR presence in the country, the OHR said in a press release without specifying what forces these are.

Schmidt noted that the strengthening of the temporary reserve forces reaffirmed the international community's commitment to safeguarding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its institutions based on the Dayton peace agreement.

Schmidt said there was no doubt that Bosnia and Herzegovina's place was in Europe, and that the Union, through its military mission Althea and together with the OHR, would resolutely support the country on its path to EU integration.
