Dubrovnik voted east Mediterranean top cruising destination

Reviewers and cruise fans chose Dubrovnik among destinations such as Kotor, Venice, Santorini, and Rhodes for its exceptionally rich culture and history.

“This recognition confirms the international popularity of Dubrovnik, which contributes to the image of Croatia as a tourist destination,” said Kristjan Stanicic, head of the Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ).

Dubrovnik is the most popular Croatian tourist destination, generating more than 4 million overnight stays in the last year alone, and more than 2 million so far in 2018, he added.

Cruise Critic, established in 1995 by the Trip Advisor’s branch The Independent Traveller, is the central place for the exchange of information on cruise trips.

“After Dubrovnik was voted the best congress destination, the title of best cruising destination in the eastern Mediterranean is another confirmation of the diversity that Dubrovnik, and Croatia, have. I believe this recognition will make Dubrovnik, as well as the whole of Croatia, additionally attractive to visitors from all over the world who will come back and stay longer in the city,” said Tourism Minister Gari Capelli.

The status of Dubrovnik as an attractive cruising destination is further confirmed by the fact that it will host this year’s Tourism and Strategy Festival, which will be centred around the topic of cruising tourism and the challenges and opportunities that popular cruising destinations deal with.
