The Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HDZ BiH) has condemned and called for an investigation into death threats made against Croatian MEP Zeljana Zovko after she spoke about the need to change the Dayton agreement, which ended the 1992-1995 war in the country.

Speaking in a programme on Croatia’s state television HRT last Friday, Zovko said that the Dayton agreement had been violated several times to the detriment of the Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina, making several proposals on how to ensure that the Croats enjoyed the same status as the other two constituent peoples – Bosniaks and Serbs.

After that, several death threats were posted on her YouTube channel saying that she would “disappear” and should be “removed”.

The HDZ BiH’s women’s organisation called on the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees and the Agency for Gender Equality to amend the law to effectively penalise any form of hate speech. It said it expected the relevant authorities to investigate the case and punish the perpetrators of verbal attacks.
