Ahead the beginning of the new school year in a week's time, the heads of schools received instructions on Wednesday that teachers who refuse to be tested to the coronavirus can be fired.

The “vaccinated, recovered, tested” rule applies to all the staff in schools, and those who have not got vaccinated or have not recovered from COVID-19 will be obligated to undergo weekly testing, and this will be considered a duty within the scope of the employment relationship.

Refusal to submit to testing without justified reasons can lead to warning notice before dismissal.

The education ministry also decides on the mandatory wearing of masks by teachers.

In the event that a pupil fails to wear a protective mask, their parents and the competent instructors will be notified of the case for further procedure.

The epidemiological situation in Slovenia has recently deteriorated, and local epidemiologists fear the country will turn red on the latest map of the European Centre for Disease Control (ECDC).

Nevertheless, the Janez Jansa cabinet does not plan to lock down social and economic activities on a larger scale.

In the last 24 hours, there have been 508 new cases of the infection with coronavirus, and the share of positive tests was 18.1 percent. As many as 88 COVID patients are receiving hospital treatment, and 19 of them are in intensive care wards.

Slovenia’s 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 has risen to 190.
