Due to numerous protests, the Slovenian government on Wednesday decided that COVID certificates will not be necessary to enter Slovenia for passengers in transit and international transport, but a request for that to apply also to migrant workers from Croatia has not yielded any results.

Slovenian lawmaker Meira Hot from the Social Democratic Party appealed in parliament on Monday for migrant workers and local residents along the Slovenian-Croatian border to be exempt from having COVID certificates showing that they have recovered or been vaccinated from COVID or a negative test result.

She said then that constant changing of regulations was creating big problems for people living in areas along both sides of the border and that special lanes should be set up for them at border crossings during  the summer season to avoid congestion.

The party’s spokeswoman Janja Bregar said that Janez Jansa’s government had still not responded to the proposal. According to the standing orders, the government is obliged to respond within 30 days, she said, adding that the party would insist on that. She said that as of tomorrow, migrant workers will be faced with huge problems.

From 15 July until 23 July, the new decision will be in force, which means that regardless of where anyone is coming from, they will be required to have a COVID certificate or a negative test, including migrant workers.
