In the past 24 hours, 91 COVID-19 cases and one death have been registered in Slovenia, it was said on Monday, but the authorities warned that some restrictions will have to remain in force during the summer because the virus is still very present and collective immunity far away.

Thirty-nine percent of the adult population has been vaccinated and one in four citizens have received both shots, but at least 60% should be vaccinated to achieve collective community against the Wuhan coronavirus variant, chief infectious disease specialist Bojana Beovic told the press in Ljubljana.

In the past 24 hours 6.1% of coronavirus tests have come back positive and there are currently a little over 4,000 active cases, which is encouraging, but “the virus is still very present in Slovenia,” Beovic said, adding that Austria and Italy have half of Slovenia’s infection incidence.
