After the British and South African variants of coronavirus were registered in Slovenia, the government on Monday confirmed that one family has contracted the Brazil variant of the virus.
The Brazil variant has been confirmed in three people from the same family, infectologist Mareja Logar said at a press conference, adding that this was an isolated case.
The Slovenian government said on Monday that in the past 24 hours 1,681 tests confirmed 210 new cases of the virus while six more people have died as a consequence.
There are currently 527 hospitalised COVID patients, 17 more than on Sunday and 91 of them are in intensive care.
“The epidemiological situation is unfortunately not improving as we would wish, and therefore we cannot expect restrictions to be relaxed,” said Logar.
After several months of online school as of Monday all elementary and secondary school students are back to school equipped with masks, the health ministry said.
As of Monday cafes and other hospitality establishments in two of 12 statistical regions will reopen but only as a trial for one week to test the situation.
