Slovenia is experiencing a downward trend in the fourth wave of the coronavirus infections, so the country's authorities are not thinking about the introduction of the mandatory vaccination, an infectious disease specialist, Bojana Beovic, said on Wednesday.

Beovic told Slovenian state television that there had been such plans about the country’s general vaccination mandate, however, the current developments indicate that the authorities should continue implementing the current anti-epidemic measures.

For the time being, the authorities are implementing the so-called lock-down on the unvaccinated persons.

In the last 24 hours, 2,257 persons have tested positive for coronavirus in Slovenia, and the test positivity rate has been 32.4%, as against the day before when there had been 2,482 new cases of the infection and the share of positive rates stood at 39.5%.

There are currently 35,113 active cases, and 1,107 Covid patients are now in hospitals, including 275 in intensive care wards.

Slovenia’s 14-day incidence rate per 100,00  is 1,665 and the seven-day incidence rate is 2,073.

So far, 54.5% of Slovenians have got vaccinated.
