The Croatian parliament changed its agenda on Monday, removing the item of a no-confidence vote in construction minister Darko Horvat scheduled for Wednesday as Horvat was relieved of duty after being arrested on Saturday on suspicion of abuse of office.

The agenda was changed after the parliament received information from the government that Horvat had been relieved of duty over the weekend at his own request.

The Parliament Speaker has the authority to decide on the agenda and the parliament explained that there was no point in a no-confidence vote in a minister who had stepped down.

The former construction minister resigned on Saturday, when he was arrested and after being questioned by the USKOK anti-corruption office and remanded in one month’s custody.

Opposition parties in the parliament united in their motion to have Horvat removed due to the tardiness of post-earthquake reconstruction and the slow pace of absorbing money from the EU Solidarity Fund.
