Montenegrin health authorities on Saturday decided to introduce new restrictions in five towns with the highest number of coronavirus infections, and a decision to possibly impose a lockdown also on the capital Podgorica will be made after the results of 200 tests arrive from Germany.

As of Monday, a curfew will be in force from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. in Budva, Ulcinj, Cetinje, Kolasin and Zabljak. Schools, kindergartens and catering establishments there will be closed down, the head of the Montenegrin Public Health Institute, Boban Mugosa, said.

He noted that the new measures were being introduced as the rate of infection in those communities exceeded 800 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Mugosa believes the new restrictions will also be introduced in Podgorica.

In the past 24 hours, the country’s health authorities have reported 146 new coronavirus infections and three related fatalities. The number of active cases currently stands at 4,428 or 703 per 100,000 inhabitants.
