All of Croatia continues to be red on the latest COVID-19 map of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), released on Thursday.

Croatia staying red was expected given that the number of new COVID-19 infections and hospitalised patients has been increasing for weeks.

The ECDC map has not changed considerably for the rest of Europe either. The biggest change was registered in Romania which has turned red whereas last week it was orange, with the exception of one green region.

Currently, the epidemiological situation is the best in Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic, which are still completely green.

Croatia’s neighbour Slovenia is red with the exception of areas bordering Italy and Austria, which are dark red. Most of Austria, Germany and Spain are red as are all the regions of the Baltic countries as well as Bulgaria, Greece and Ireland, with the letter having one  dark red region.

The epidemiological situation is somewhat better in countries mostly marked orange, such as Slovakia, Portugal, Italy and Scandinavian countries, as well as in France which is orange on the most part except for red and dark red zones in the country’s south.

The colour red means that the 14-day cumulative COVID-19 case notification rate ranges from 75 to 200 and the test positivity rate for COVID-19 is 4% or more, or the 14-day cumulative COVID-19 case notification rate is more than 200 but less than 500.

The map is published by the ECDC every Thursday in support of the Council Recommendation on a coordinated approach to the restriction of free movement in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
