Croatia's Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Tomislav Coric, said on Tuesday that the planned storage of nuclear waste on Mount Trgovska Gora was one of the issues discussed at a meeting with ministers in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday.
“There is no plan B. We want to build a facility at a safe location and to the highest standards for the storage of not only waste from Krsko (nuclear power plant), but a wide range of fractions of such waste that are present throughout Croatia,” Coric said.
“At the Trgovska Gora site we will comply with the highest environmental and safety standards. And not just for the sake of 250,000 people on the other side of the border, but primarily for the sake of our own citizens and hence for the sake of our neighbors and friends on the other side of the border. We don’t want this process to be compromised in any way and we are fully open to communication with Bosnia and Herzegovina,” he added.
Corić said that Croatia had provided the dedicated Bosnian task force with all documents concerning the construction of a storage facility for medium and low radioactive waste at Cerkezovac.
“We agreed to continue our communication at the level of experts and make it possible for Bosnian experts to examine some of our findings and research. We have no problem with that,” Coric said.
Cerkezovac is situated about 130 kilometres south of Zagreb, near the border town of Dvor.
