There have been calls for the introduction of mandatory Covid-19 vaccination in Slovenia amid a rise in the number of coronavirus infections, and the Medical Ethics Committee on Tuesday also put forward such a proposal.

The committee is an advisory body to the ministry of health, and it proposed that the government consider mandatory vaccination, first for vulnerable groups and workers in occupations that put them at risk of infection, and then gradually for the general population.

“Due to a low vaccination rate, sick, hospitalized and deceased patients pay a high price every day, and most of them are unvaccinated,” the committee told the government.

According to the proposal, vaccination would first become mandatory for high-risk groups and persons at high risk of infection due to their job, and the requirement would apply to the general population in case of new coronavirus mutations and the emergence of even more transmissible and dangerous variants.

However, at the same time, the Medical Ethics Committee recognizes there is strong resistance to the introduction of mandatory vaccination, which is why the preparation for that should be very detailed and measured.
