Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomasevic on Tuesday announced the modernisation of the water supply and drainage network, which will start next year through a €239 million project, and part of the costs will be covered by a price increase announced for March 1 this year.
In Zagreb, 97% of citizens have access to water and water supply and 86% have access to public drainage system.
“It is necessary to secure 30% of the funds for the project from the Water Management company’s own funds so that it can absorb this money precisely for the expansion of the water supply network…currently, the project is still in preparation and it will be launched next year and will last until 2028,” the Mayor told a press conference.
In order to be able to implement the Zagreb project, it will be necessary to increase prices as of 1 March to secure 30% of the funds required for co-funding while 70% will be absorbed from EU funds. This is the largest investment in water supply in several decades.
