Retail spending in Croatia in July increased for the 6th consecutive month, increasing by nearly 13 percent year-on-year, hinting at economy's recovery after the coronavirus crisis.

The Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) reported on Monday that according to working day-adjusted data, retail trade turnover increased in real terms by 2.2% month on month but rose by 12.8% on the year.

July was the sixth month in a row to record a year-on-year increase in retail trade turnover after retail consumption was down for 11 months amidst the coronavirus crisis.

The increase in retail trade turnover accelerated in July compared to June, when it increased by 10.9% y-o-y.

The retail trade turnover of food, beverages and tobacco products increased by 12.8% while the retail trade turnover of non-food products (apart from motor fuel and lubricants) was up 9.1% on the year, the DZS reported.

In the first seven months of 2021, retail trade turnover grew by 12.6% compared to the same period of 2020. In the whole of 2020, it was down by 5.8%.
