Croatia is working on its plans at the moment, and for now there are no concrete conclusions on where its army will be at a given moment, Defence Minister Mario Banozic said in Brussels on Wednesday, responding to questions from the press about how Croatia will participate in bolstering NATO forces.
Banozic is participating in a two-day meeting of NATO defence ministers. NATO said today that it would consider bolstering its forces along its eastern flank, and the defence ministers tasked the competent military services to identify possible options.
“We have shown by participating in operations and missions, in which Croatian soldiers have been given the best grades, that we are allies who can be counted on. Naturally, everything that happens in the future must be defined in our plans,” Banozic said.
He said there had been no talk at the meeting about any deployment of military ships and aircraft in Croatia.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said today the defence ministers had ordered military commanders to work on details for further reinforcing NATO on the eastern flank and that they would submit reports in a few weeks.
He said NATO had already reinforced deterrence and defence with more troops, aircraft and vessels, noting that those were defence forces and that NATO was not a threat to Russia.
