The final verdict against Ratko Mladic, the wartime commander of the Bosnian Serb Army will be delivered on June 8, before the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) at the Hague, and four members of the Mothers of Srebrenica and Zepa Enclaves association of survivors will be there to witness the sentencing, Anadolu Agency reported Tuesday.

Four members of the Mothers of Srebrenica and Zepa Enclaves association and victims and witnesses of the Srebrenica genocide will attend the sentencing.

“Our goal is to once again send a message from that place to the entire world that a criminal, an executioner, killed 10,701 of our children at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century. He caused us, mothers, pain and suffering. We have been going to bed with this pain for the past 26 years, and we always get up with sadness. We will never forget, we will never forgive and we will never allow it to be forgotten. The valley of white tombstones will speak even after Munira, Kada, all of us pass away. The white tombstones will tell the history of our people after us,” Munira Subasic said.

The International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY) sentenced Mladic on November 22, 2017, in a first-instance verdict to life imprisonment.

Mladic was a Bosnian Serb military leader during the 1992-95 war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and trial judges found he was responsible for overseeing the murder of more than 8,000 Muslim men and boys in the eastern Bosnian town of Srebrenica in 1995.

Trial judges found Mladic was responsible for ethnic cleansing campaigns against Bosnian Muslims and Croats, and murdering and terrorising civilians in the Bosnian capital Sarajevo during a 43-month siege, as part of a plan to forge a “Greater Serbia” out of parts of the former Yugoslavia.

Both the prosecution and defence filed appeals to the verdict.

The verdict will be delivered by Judges Prisca Matimba Nyambe, Aminatta Lois Runeni N’gum, Seymour Panton, Elizabeth Ibanda-Nahamya and Mustapha El Baaj, the Mechanism said.
