Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Monday the government and all its ministries were working on preventing a major blow to living standards due to higher energy prices, adding that the next tourist season was already being planned and that he expected it to be excellent.
Responding to questions from the press in Split, he said energy prices would be the key topic in the next six months, adding that this problem had not yet surfaced in Croatia, unlike in many other European countries.
“With all the measures we are taking, quietly and very discretely, we have managed to ensure that there has not been any increase in energy prices for households, either gas or electricity.”
As for businesses, Plenkovic said their energy prices depended on the kind of contracts they had.
He said there had been no “blow” to living standards, recalling that when the price of oil went up, the government capped petrol and diesel prices.
He added that the Economy Ministry and everyone involved was looking for a way to limit any major blow to living standards as much as possible, which might occur after 1 April. “Because we don’t want the energy price increase to have any dynamically negative effect.”
The prime minister reiterated that there were various measures and tools at their disposal and that all would be utilised to prevent a major blow to living standards.
