As of 1 February all vehicles using Slovenian motorways are required to have electronic toll vignettes, moving on from windscreen stickers, 13 years after their adoption.
The prices of week-long, month-long and year-long vignettes remain the same, the only difference being that the new one-year vignette, which costs €110, will be valid for 365 days from the date of purchase, and not until the end of the current calendar year as was previously the case.
The new system means that the electronic vignette is linked to the vehicle’s license plate number. When buying one online, drivers need to provide their license plate number and an email address. Electronic vignettes are also available at all the places that had previously sold toll stickers.
The state-owned motorways management company DARS issued a guarantee saying that immediately after checking whether the driver has paid for a toll their personal data would be deleted from their system, in line with the EU personal data protection standards.
Using a motorway in Slovenia without a valid electronic vignette carries a fine of €300.
