Croatia's State Geodetic Administration, Zagreb Faculty of Geodesy and Central State Office for the Development of the Digital Society have developed a website giving an overview of the entire earthquake-hit area.
The director of the State Geodetic Administration, Damir Šantek, told a Croatian Radio programme on Monday that immediately after the 29 December earthquake in Banovina the entire area had been mapped.
The system is the most important register for every settlement in Croatia, and in the quake-hit area emergency services were able to reach all settlements, even those no one knew existed.
Šantek said that on 30 December drones had been used to survey 762 hectares of land in the Petrinja area to assess the damage. The Sisak area was surveyed 1 January and the Glina area on 7 January.
A total of 40,000 square metres have been surveyed, and a comparison with old images shows the extent of the damage, he said.
He underscored the importance of the digital photos by noting that they show every roof and chimney.
The state authorities can now see all the data in one place, and once the system becomes available to the public, people will be able to access data on their real estate with the click of a mouse.
In about a month, residents of this area will be able to obtain papers for the reconstruction and all necessary documents will be available in one place, Šantek said.
