The situation with a wildfire that broke out at Seget Gornji, inland from the southern coastal town of Trogir, and consumed approximately 550 hectares of low vegetation and some pine wood, is currently much better, the Split-Dalmatia County fire service said, adding that there are no open flames and firefighters are cleaning up the area.
During the night the fire was spreading fast and approaching residential buildings but there was no need for evacuation.
Because of the fire, landing operations at Split Airport were suspended for about an hour on Monday and flights were rerouted to Zadar or Zagreb.
The Croatian Army on Monday mobilised the largest number of the firefighting forces this year to help put out fires at three locations, the Defence Ministry said on Tuesday.
Nine firefighting airplanes, four Canadair 415 planes, four Airtractors 802 and one helicopter Mi8 MTV helped put out the fires at Seget Gornji in Split-Dalmatia County, at Drinovci in Sibenik-Knin County and at Bili Brig in Zadar County.
