Cannabis on Lidl shelves in Switzerland

A gram and a half of locally grown cannabis will cost 18 Swiss francs (some €15), while a 3g bag will cost a little over €16.

The product is offered as an alternative to rolling tobacco, The Guardian wrote on Thursday.

The sale of cannabis is legal in Switzerland since 2011, when a law was passed permmitting people of legal age to purchase and use cannabis as long as it contained less than 1 percent of THC, the main psychoactive constituent of the plant.

The product’s distributer is the Swiss-based company The Botanicals, which grows cannabis in semi-automatic greenhouses and indoors.

“The manufacturer relies on sustainable agriculture and refrains entirely from adding chemical, synthetic or genetically modified substances,” Lidl said.
