High visitor numbers point to a record 2018 tourist season

Tourist industry posts excellent figures, with numbers of both foreign and domestic visitors in Q1 2018 significantly up from the same period the year before, pointing to a record-setting summer season ahead.

Commercial lodging businesses have recorded some 870,000 arrivals and 2 million overnight stays in Croatia over the first three months of 2018, or 19.3 percent up in arrivals and 22.3 percent up in overnight stays compared to the same period in 2017, the state statistics bureau said on Thursday.

The data includes 581,000 arrivals of foreign visitors, or 26.8 percent up from Q1 2017, with 1.4 million overnight stays, or 31.2 percent up from the same period the year before. By country of origin, the most overnight stays were made by visitors from Germany, followed by Austria, Slovenia, Italy, and South Korea.

Domestic tourists had 289,000 arrivals and 630,000 overnight stays, up by 6.5 percent and 6.2 percent respectively compared to Q1 2017.
By destination, foreign visitors had the most overnight stays in the capital Zagreb, followed by popular coastal cities of Dubrovnik, Rovinj, Porec, and Opatija. In March 2018 alone, there were 440,000 tourist arrivals and about a million overnight stays, up by 28.5 percent and 35.2 percent from March 2017.
