Coordinator of Covid-19 hospital treatment at Zagreb's KB Dubrava hospital, Ivica Luksic, said on Thursday that 164 Covid patients were currently being treated in that hospital whose capacity for treating Covid patients would today be increased to 270 inpatient beds.

The Covid hospital ward would be expanded to the emergency department, so in the future all emergency patients will be redirected to other Zagreb hospitals, Luksic told the N1 television.

He also said that patients with moderate and severe symptoms of the coronavirus infection were currently being treated in that institution.

Luksic said that it was important to adhere to the measures in order to reduce the number of new cases, otherwise even the 270 beds would not be enough for all patients.

He also said that the tents set up in front of the hospital by Croatian army servicemen during the first wave of the epidemic in spring would for now not be used for coronavirus patients.

They will be used as a last resort, he said, if hospital capacities can no longer withstand the influx of patients.

As for other patients, KB Dubrava will continue to carry out part of its diagnostic activities and perform the minimum necessary surgical procedures.

Head of the Dr Andrija Stampar Teaching Institute of Public Health, Zvonimir Sostar, confirmed for Hina that Zagreb had registered a record 705 new cases of the coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours.
