The private C.I.O.S. Group, specialised in waste management, said on Friday that it was surprised by the proposal made by the Zagreb Mayor concerning bulky waste collection and removal service in the capital city.

The C.I.O.S. Group issued an ironically toned statement after the mayor Tomislav Tomasevic earlier in the day said that he had cancelled a tender for the removal of bulky waste in Zagreb after two valid bids had been submitted, one by Reoma Group and the other by the Ce-Za-r company, a member from the C.I.O.S. group.

The mayor annulled the tender which had been advertised by the previous city administration, and announced that the city-owned sanitation company Cistoca would be in charge of the bulky waste collection and removal once it procured crushers.

The C.I.O.S. Group says that the services concerning the collection and removal of bulky waste include more complex technological processes than the simplified separation of wood and metal and disposal of the crushed scrap products as it was presented by Mayor Tomasevic at his news conference.

The group ironically commented on the mayor’s “innovative solution” that the pressing issue of the bulky waste disposal could be addressed with the procurement of two crushers for Cistoca.

The group also wonders how Tomasevic could plan the transport of the crushed scrap to Jakusevac after his election promise about shutting down that landfill.

The group says that during 30 years of its existence, it has invested HRK 1.4 billion in the waste management technology, and that the revenues ensured through its business relations with the City of Zagreb amount to only one percent of the group’s total revenues.
