"Kino Magistrala", a partner project of Kino Mediteran, Art-Kino in Rijeka, the Zlatna Vrata cinematheque in Split and the Kinemotografi Dubrovnik public institution, has been chosen among 15 projects to be financed by the Europa Cinemas network and the Creative Europe MEDIA strand.

“We are extremely proud to have been selected as one of the 15 projects in this call and to be the only project from Croatia,” said Alen Munitic on behalf of the project coordinator, Kino Mediteran.

According to him, partners from Rijeka to Dubrovnik are connected by their great commitment to the independent European film but also by the seasonality of their work, because summer activities take place in summer cinemas and winter in cinema halls.

“It is through this segment that we will present the work of our cinemas to the general public at the national and European level, and locally we will develop new generations of cinema visitors through cooperation with primary and secondary schools”, he said.

The “Collaborate to Innovate” initiative of the Europa Cinemas network was organised with the aim of network building at the national and European level, in order for cinemas to jointly develop strategies and activities for bringing audiences back to cinemas after the crisis caused by the global pandemic.

It was also important to promote the values of European cinematography, network building, new audience development and the sustainability of the screening sector.

The Croatian project “Kino Magistrala / Coastline Cinema”, coordinated by Kino Mediteran, involves cinemas along the Adriatic Highway, from Rijeka through Split to Dubrovnik, with numerous cinemas on islands and on the coast in smaller towns in Dalmatia.

The partners in this project jointly organise film programmes, with an emphasis on developing new audiences, especially children and young people, through numerous activities for them.

A significant part of the project is dedicated to the campaign for a return to the cinema.
