The epidemiological situation in Slovenia on Saturday continued to calm down and the number of hospitalisations began to stagnate, with 2,224 new COVID-19 cases having been reported in the last 24 hours.
The national public health institute said the number of active cases was down by 1,446 compared to the previous day, and the 14-day incidence was lower as well, at 1,900 infections per 100,000 population, as was the seven-day average number of infections in a single day, at 2,489.
The number of hospitalised patients continues to be very high, 1,120, including 284 in intensive care units, however, it is starting to show signs of stabilisation.
In the past 24 hours, 23 people have died of COVID-19.
The local media said that after the approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children by the European Medicines Agency, the Slovenian government, too, has been preparing for vaccination that is already underway in a number of other countries in Europe and the rest of the world.
The first supplies of the vaccine for children will arrive next month and vaccination will be done by pediatricians, it was reported.
According to data from the country’s health ministry, 54.3% of the Slovenian population has been immunised, a rate that is considered too low.
