The interest of people getting vaccinated against COVID-19 in Croatia is satisfactory, giving rise to optimism that the country can hit the target of vaccinating 50 percent of its adults by the end of June, said epidemiologist Diana Mayer on Monday.
On the one hand, Croatia is registering a decline in daily coronavirus figures, and on the other, more and more Croatians have received at least one vaccine dose, Mayer, an official of the Croatian Institute of Public Health (HZJZ), told the national radio (HR).
The vaccination rates Croatia has achieved are satisfactory, she said, warning however they are still not enough to combat the virus.
According to the data provided by the national COVID-19 crisis management team, more than 1.9 million doses of the vaccine were administered by June 5. To date, more than 1.3 million people have received at least one dose, while more than half a million have been fully inoculated.
“We believe that, by the end of June, we will have vaccinated 50 percent of adults,” she said.
Pressure on COVID hospitals easing
The clinical hospital Dubrava in Zagreb, which was repurposed last year for treating COVID patients only, resumed its regular services as of Monday after 217 days. Appointments for 300 non-COVID patients were scheduled for Monday alone.
