EU officials decided on Wednesday to add Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Taiwan, and the United States on its list of countries where arriving to the EU is allowed.

This recommendation, however, is not binding for EU member countries, who reserve the right to individually decide on a case-by-case basis whether or not a negative test for coronavirus or mandatory quarantine would be required for travelers arriving from those countries.

So far, eight countries – Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand, have been put on the EU’s list of safe countries.

In March 2020 the EU introduced restrictions for all non-essential travel from outside the bloc, while entry for people traveling to Europe for essential reasons was allowed.

Last month EU member-countries relaxed criteria for tourists from third countries, deciding to allow entry for all fully vaccinated travelers. Travelers from countries listed should now be able to travel to the EU even without getting the vaccination.
