Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic met with several heads of government from central Europe on the margins of the European Union's summit, for the talks on making it easier for tourists to travel to Croatia before the EU digital Covid certificate goes into force on 1 July.

This topic was on the agenda of Plenkovic’s talks with the prime ministers, Janez Jansa of Slovenia, Viktor Orban of Hungary, Eduard Heger of Slovakia, Andrej Babis of Czechia and  Mateusz Morawiecki of Poland on Tuesday.

Plenkovic said that bilateral arrangements for smooth travel would be agreed on, and that those deals would be in place until the enactment of the rules regulating the EU Digital Covid certificate.

“It is in our interest to enable citizens of our neighboring countries to travel to Croatia before the application the EU Covid travel pass,” he added.

The Covid-related “epidemiological situation” was on the agenda of the two-day summit in Brussels, state agency Hina reported.

Plenkovic “informed his interlocutors about two good trends in Croatia: the ramped-up vaccination process and lower Covid numbers,” Hina said.

So far, nearly 1.2 million Croatians have been given at least one shot of Covid vaccine, and over 400,000 have been fully vaccinated.

Plenkovic said that in the event of the surplus of vaccine supplies, Croatia would donate a portion of vaccines to “those in need.”

He “recalled” that so far, Croatia had donated 30,000 doses of coronavirus vaccines to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and 10,000 doses to Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania and North Macedonia each, Hina reported.
